CHAPTER TEN
FAMILIAR FEAR RACED through Charlotte. The fear that he was just using her. The fear that heâd leave her. But she stopped it. There was no place for fear in what she felt for Jace. Even if this was a one-night stand, she wanted it. It was time to change the way she felt about everything. Time to let go of the past. Time to stop thinking of everything in terms of her dad. Fight the fear. And live her life.
She reached for the bottom of Jaceâs shirt and yanked it up, shifting away from their kiss only long enough to pull it over his head and toss it away.
âCharlotteââ
âStop. Donât talk us out of this. I like you. You like me. We both want this.â And for once she wanted to be rid of the fear, to look it in the eye and tell it it didnât matter. That sheâd survive a little pain because the pleasure would be worth it.
She must have convinced him because he kissed her again. His mouth moved over hers hungrily and she responded equally greedily. Terrible reminders of being abandoned flitted through her brain. She blocked them. Her entire life had been spent being worried about the future. She desperately needed to live in the moment.
He grabbed the hem of her T-shirt and yanked it up as she stepped back far enough that he could pull it over her head. When they were breast to chest, her eyes drifted shut. With only the thin lace of her bra between them, the sensations passing through her stole her breath. Sheâd made love with men before but never one she was so attracted to. Never someone she wanted so much, even though she knew this wasnât permanent. In a few days or weeks, heâd be out of her life.
But that was the point. Not everything had to last forever. Some things were short-term. For enjoyment.
He reached behind her and unhooked her bra. Their gazes caught as if each gave the other one last chance to back away. But neither moved until Jace slid his hand around her neck, pulled her close and kissed her as if heâd been starving for her his entire life.
Everything after that happened in a rush. A riot of touches and tastes, smooth caresses and kisses so long and deep she could have drowned in them. His silky soft burgundy-colored sheets added to the pleasure and she forgot all about her life, her fears, and lived in the sinfully sexy moment with the strongest yet somehow nicest man sheâd ever met.
